Esbjörn Svensson R.I.P.

Esbjörn Svensson of Esbjörn Svensson Trio passed away yesterday after a diving accident. He was learning to scuba dive in Stockholm's arhipelago when the accident occured. His wife, children friends, swedish and international jazz lovers world wide will miss him.

R.I.P. Esbjörn Svensson - (April 16, 1964 - June 14, 2008)

E. S. was a jazz pianist and founder of the jazz band Esbjörn Svensson Trio, commonly known as E.S.T.

A great pianist, a great musician and an incredibly forward-thinking man in the studio, especially for jazz.

A sad day.

I've seen him perform a couple of times. Mindblowing stuff. Records are really good too. It's really a shame.

Vila i frid, Esbjörn.

Heard this on the Jazz radio station the other day - EST was supposed to be playing the Toronto Jazz Fest this coming week, and the trio has now cancelled their entire tour.

As a performer in the fest this year, I was at the Rex last night at the welcoming party/jam session where they had a moment of silence for his passing...

Sad news indeed.
