Merry Christmas

I hope everyone's having a good one and is safe and sound, hopefully with family rather then being holed up in a studio. Right now it's snowing like a mother****er, it started early this morning maybe 1am or so and the plows haven't been through yet. Still, it's nice and warm in here and I'm not planning on leaving.

Happy Christmas one and all - I wish you the very best for Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year 2012.

We are having a quiet Christmas at home this year instead of driving 1,100 miles across Europe as normal.

Happy Christmas.

John

The "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word [Greek fonts do not appear to work on GS], translated as "Christ".

absolutely
before the middle ages some old pope stole a winter pagan holiday to help make it easier to convert them

most experts believe X was born in the spring

I normally spell out Christmas but the guy is correct so there is nothing wrong with the X, it's not marking out what you think at all, it's all very true.

"Xmas" is a common abbreviation of the word "Christmas". It is sometimes pronounced /??ksm?s/, but it, and variants such as "Xtemass", originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /?kr?sm?s/. The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for "Mass",[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word ???????, translated as "Christ".[2]
There is a common misconception that the word Xmas is a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[3] by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas".

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

Offensive !

After seeing this thread title and choosing to click / open / and voluntarily read all of the posts, I can't help but feel my personal beliefs are being forcefully intruded upon.

After all, I have the right to read anything I want to and, if I don't like what was written, you really should consider my feelings and change your words to better suit me.

Something along the lines of "EMOTIONAL FREEDOM DURING COLDNESS !" would be much more neutral and non-offensive.

Thank You

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !

I have just canceled the email service from one of my provider because of his silly 'Happy Holidays' wishes. I'm spending happy holidays in my house on Ibiza . . . in summertime

I quite agree, I find this "Happy Holidays" thing very offensive.

OK, I am a Christian and like to say "Happy Christmas", but I am not offended if a Jew wishes me "Happy Passover (or whatever festival it is) and will wish him "Happy Passover" back. I am not offended if a believer in Islam wishes me "Happy Ramadan" (or whatever festival he may be having) and will wish him the same back. I will not be offended if a non-believer wishes me "Happy Winterfest" and will wish him the same back.

But "Happy Holidays" is a nothing and I find it very offensive. It's a weak wish that is trying to be all things to all people and, as a result, ends up being offensive to most as it belittles Christmas, it belittles Passover and belittles every religion on the planet.

Our pastor was talking about this yesterday and I found it interesting the word holiday is actually derived from "holy day".

Happy holy day!

This is why "EMOTIONAL FREEDOM DURING SEASONAL COLDNESS TO YOU !" is the wave of the future. It doesn't force any emotion (happy, merry) on the receiver and does not connotate any hint of religious or spiritual alignment with this time of year.

I predict all thinking machines/computers, along with all human/cyborg hybrids and genetically altered "primates", will use this "scientifically proper" greeting in the future... when everything will finally be "great".
