Gearslutz Hall of Flame!

How about an honor roll for the more "controversial" pieces of gear that
tend to "heat up" threads be they the good, the bad, or the ugly?

Here are the ones I confess to owning;

1) Studio Projects C1 (winner of the most "best microphone under X dollars" catagory)
2) Behringer 802A mixer (why it's "almost as good" as a Mackie- because of their R & D)
3) Alesis Nanocompressor (fraternal twin to 3630 minus gates)
4) Minidisc 4 track recorder (c'mon it sounds "near CD") Tascam 564
5) Tascam 244 cassette 4 track recorder (the platinum selling "Nebraska" format)
6) Joe Meek VC6Q and VC3Q (most seem to like or love it-some hate it, kinda like California)
7) BBE Sonic Maximizer (to bbe or not to bbe... and it's "great" for cheap mastering of mixes)

My other stuff is pretty tame...

I own an AKG 3000 that was given to me by a broke client. For a few years I tried to make it work on something, even scratch vocals, but the only time it performed well was on an unused hi-hat track.grggt

A local studio owner told me basically the same thing about the
C3000. He had bought a pair(!) for mainly vocals, and thought they sounded too harsh. Now he just uses them for drums too.

i got you both beat on the sampler tip. S2000. REALLY basic sampler, no filters... well some.... but working with MESA for it sucks ass. but it just sounds so nice and i cant give it up even with software samplers abound.

i got a ZOOM 9000 that i cant give up. i love its phasor... noisy as **** but has a special sweep i havent found on other phasers.

of course i have a behringer eurodesk8000 still for running cue sends during tracking.... but its about to be replaced [mmmmmackie control, and i need to find a CR section]

alpha, why would anyone ever replace a Behringer when it could become
"vintage"!?

Chris

P.S. I saw some pictures of Asheville-didn't realize how beautiful that
area next to the Smokey Mountains is!
