how "noisier" is the Peluso VTB compared to Sony C800g?

The sony has a sensitivity of 33mv and the VTB is only 11mv. Correct me if I am wrong but the higher sensitivity of a mic the hotter its output? So while the VTB has a very low self noise of 15db, I still have to crank up my preamp high enough to get it at reasonble recording level while with the Sony c800g I would need less preamp gain? Waite then this wouldn't conicide with ribbon mics and their extreme sensitivity???? I do not know! Since I have not heard either in my setup. I just need some clarification as to how much noisier the VTB is compared to the 800g or even the holy grail standard u87ai. How do I find out what these noise specs mean?

To match their output the VTB will need 3 times more preamp gain to match the Sony when recording a source which generates the same amount of sound pressure.
At least thats how senssors work in theory...

funny I just posted something about the VTB :)
Well against my c 414 the VTB is wayyy louder.
it picks up great and I get great volume/gain out of it.
if I rememeber wel the sony might be a bit louder but the VTB is really quiet, you can crank your pre.
I don't have any problem getting a great volume out of the VTB.

I just posted on your thread and noticed you posted on mine.

So what kind of preamps are you using the VTB with and at how high of a gain setting? Is that the newer c414 or older models?

the c 414 is the old model. as far as pres I use a neve 1073 dpa, a chandler ltd1 or a avalon 737 sp.
gain on the neve right now is mic 30 trim 0 and it's PLENTY!!
