| Not liking convolution reverb so much these days...recommoned me a reverb plugin? I just don't hear dynamics and depth in it. It sounds very stiff and two dimensional, you know? Can you guys recommend a good reverb plugin (I'm running Cubase on Windows XP)? I'm looking specifically for something that has a very 'transparent when turned up high' and 'even when it's down low, you'll miss it when you turn it off' kind of sound (two completely different things, I know, perhaps too much to ask from one plugin). Ideally I'd like something I could put effectively on any instrument. I don't want something that sounds like 'reverb', just something to give my recordings a sense of space/depth. Thanks! |

| JUST A SINGLE PLUG IN WONT DO THE JOB. If you want to have a great reverb you have to go with combinations of different Plug Ins.... see here and wait for tomorrow....... Comparison Lexi 960L vs Plug Ins And even this is just imitation but pretty close.... ![]() |

| Thanks for the response. I'd like to add that I was very impressed with the TC Electronic VSS3 demo. It seems to have the sound I'm looking for, but unfortunately it doesn't meet my requirements. Any VST plugins with performance on par with the VSS3? |

| As I wrote you wont get what you like with a single Plug In. Never heard the TC stuff as DSP as long as you like to stay ITB follow the other thread you will be surprised in the end...... ![]() |

| 480L. Oh wait - that's a real reverb. My bad. Just happens to be the realest reverb I've heard!

| I like the Sonnox reverb, you might want to try that one. |

| Why have you ruled out using an outboard reverb? You can put them on an digital insert and integrate quite easily into and ITB set up. I keep expecting plug in reverbs to match outboard soon, but I have not heard it yet. You can get some great deals on used verbs, like a Lexicon PCM90

| I've become somewhat dissatisfied by my convo reverb lately. I feel like I can really hear a peculiar texture to it that sounds odd and artificial. In some funny way it reminds me of how vocals sound when they're abused by clumsy Autotune use. But then I go back to my more conventional reverbs (among them Lexicon Pantheon, a very flexible 'verb from Sonitus, other plugs, as well as hardware reverbs from Lexicon, Digitech, Alesis) and I'm also dissatisfied for different reasons. Having used more than a few plate reverbs, I can't say I've ever been all that sold on the sounds that come out of plate 'verbs, either. And, let's face it, a send and pickup to a real chamber is not always so great, either. Short of recording in the space you want your tracks to sound like they're recorded in, I'd say it's all a devil's bargain. [And having used a number of spring 'verbs -- and owning my own Orban -- I'd have to say that I hate spring reverbs for anything but a spring reverb sound. For me, spring reverb is only suitable for classic guitar sounds at this point.] |

One single Plug In will not do it. You have to build your own reverb unit with harmonizing, delays and some IRs as well to come close to the big nice units....[ | |

| Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I downloaded demos of Breverb, CSR and AAR to try them each before I settle on one. I need to try them in some full band mixes to really know, but from a bit of experimenting, here are my thoughts: CSR - probably the best of the bunch, I was able to get some really nice sounds out of this. Advanced mode is scary, lots of stuff to learn. I can see myself ending up with this, but I wish it had a more straight-forward interface. Breverb - I got some really good sounds with this one too. The interface is easier to work with but not perfect. I found it a bit hard to get some distinct sounds, but what I did get was very 'good'. AAR - Best reverb interface ever. So easy to work with. I can get the sound I'm after very quickly. Not always great sounding, but there are some very usable sounds in it. The first thing I did was put the snare 01 preset on my snare drum in a song and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked for that mix. I dunno...it's a tough call. They're all quite good. In the near future, I'll have to record a mix (something that ranges stylistically) and then do three separate masters, with a different reverb on each. Then I'll know. I should try Sonnox and Wave Arts too... |
