bass traps, do they work

all my problems started when I got a new set of speakers...
before i had pair of reveals active and didn't notice any problem with my (ca. 3.8x4.4m well built) control room, infeact I recorded, produced and mixed hear some successful albums and singles for the last 2 years in this studio.
than I got this great dynaudios that goes down to 30hz and was impressed with the great bass sound and clarity of kicks and bass...
only that in my mixing position there is no bass at all
I run some test and I was right 50-60hz are canceled completly on my mixing position
I borowed 3 bass traps from a friend (never so any like these before it is a thin 1.2x0.6m metal plate glued on 15cm thick material looks like a mixture of fiberglass and foam) put them in a corner and
i'm not sure if it helped at all still got far better bass response 30cm left or right from my mixing point.
know i'm afraid to spend all my cash on trapping that might not help at all.
please help, i'm about to sell all my studio equipment and retair to a small tent in mexico's desert or something if I can get it right.
thanks

All the info you need is there. Once you're done reading, talk to Ethan and get your credit card out. I did - and not a moment's regret, my room sounds a lot better. I sure would like some Dynaudios however...
