Thread Starter | CALL FOR MIXERS: Looking for Talented Canadian Engineer for a promising new Project.
Hello all, My band has been hard at work tracking for our new album, which we are extra excited about. Some of the tracks are already getting radio play and have been winning contests and things, which is exciting. We're also playing virgin fest. So, things are happening for us. But we've made an important decision, and that is that we want someone talented and brilliant to mix this thing for us. Not that we're not talented, but you know, we want someone who is even more so ;-) Besides, trying to mix your own music is very difficult. You make stupid decisions. SO -- would anybody be interested in mixing a 14-track album in the second half of August? We're hoping for someone with a few notable records under their belt that might give us a bit of something to brag about story wise. But more than anything, we just want someone who gets what we're doing, and can make us sound even better. We want vintage, punchy, analog, warm, and several other buzz words. You must like the records of the Beatles, as well as have an affection for producers like Nigel Goderich and Danger Mouse. We like the sound of records by Radiohead and Beck and Blur and Spoon and things like that. AND -- we definitely want this to be an OTB mix. Analog comps and eqs and mix summing, etc. SO. If none of this has turned you off and you have an urge to participate in something new and unique, let me know via private message as soon as possible. We're hoping we might be able to just have you do one or two to start and give us an idea of how you'd mix us, with the rest of the record happening sometime in August. Thanks so much! Matthew PS -- Canadian is not a requirement, but it would be nice, as we're trying to keep it a fully "made in canada" production. If you're not Canadian though, we'd still love to hear from you. Like I said, the most important thing is the way it turns out.

I think the sounds/influences you are going for sonically are real cool. I don't think limiting the mix engineer to what he can use to get the mix you like is the wise move :-) If he wants to do it on a Mac Classic in the box and he/she's the one that gets you what you like, so be it. Inboard, Outboard, Overboard, no board. Why limit your choices of engineers and their preferred gear based on what you speculate the result will be? Know what I mean? That said, I can do in, out, or hybrid but will always go with what works best for my ears :-) Depending on the budget, I'd be up for a "test" mix. I can send you a demo if you like and/or a discography. ![]() You can decide which one's were tape, ITB, OTB, digital, sagittarius or vegan :-) I'm not Canadian but would love to be!

I'm not a mixing guy but I do a lot of recording production on my own and used to be an assistant in the New York scene when studios were still thriving and analog. I was second engineer for a couple projects done mostly at Bearsville...RIP. Do you want something original that will stand the test of time, a unique mix or just something that sounds like it fits with all the other Radio fare? If you want unique, I know of a guy up in Ontario who is both brilliant and original. A bit of a recluse and not much a fan of what's hip or in style but he will come up with something that will make you wonder where all the beautiful sound is coming from for years to come. He's a guy that will definitely leave a mark of his own on your work. I'm not sure if he is still at it but give me a holler and I will put you in touch with him. I heard your stuff and this guy would be a prime candidate for your request unless you are after a generic copy cat radio mix. |

A few people have pm'd me about my previous post. If you are looking for someone to help you out in Canada, Bob Guido is the guy I am referring to. It's the only place I will send out my stuff to. I'm pretty sure you can find him if you google. |
