I have been getting calls from out of town bands looking to book by the week, but they need somewhere to stay. My studio has no accommodations and staying at my house isn't an option. Needless to say, these guys can't afford hotels... any suggestions?? What do you guys do in these situations?? the local scene is starting to run dry and clients are slowly coming from farther and farther... |

I'm going through this exact thing right now. I've got two bands coming to my studio this summer from out of town. Also, their budgets aint including no hotels. One band is coming for 16 Days, and the other is coming for a week. There's gonna be some couch surfin' going on for sure. One of the bands is looking into hostils and camp grounds. I've worked out a deal with a friend of mine so they'll have a place to shower and clean up. Probably crash at the studio once or twice. I'm looking forward to it!!

I'm in Central Florida, USA. The last out-of-town band I had was last Feb/March, from Louisiana. They had to decide between hotels and session musicians...musicians won! We are fortunate enough to have friends and family with large lots and land. We also have access to a pop-up camper (sleeps up to 6 - 4 comfortably). It has fridge, stove, A.C., etc. Most of the time, friends (and especially family) let us squat it for free (mostly because they have lots of land). It runs on batteries at a limited capacity. We have also run long-ass extension cables for hookups as well (we always tell the bands to offer to pay for electricity usage). Anyhow, if you have land or friends/family with land, this may be an option. If you find that you're getting a great deal of business from out of town, It might be prudent to 'invest' in something like this...they can be had pretty cheap on Craigslist all the time. Oh yeah - camp sites are typically FAR cheaper than hotels and they typically have showers/facilities, etc. Anyhow...just a thought.

thanks for the thoughts so far.. campgrounds are definitely a good idea, especially because of the shower factor. That will probably end up being my best bet... ..and if that fails, I'll go with the meth idea. |
