Erasing 2" Tape Hi all - I work at a studio with a big pile of used 2" Quantegy/Ampex tape that we plan on selling. The studio owner would like all of the tape erased before it leaves the studio, but unfortunately we just sold our 24-track machine last month so using that method of erasing the tape is no longer an option. We do have a Radio Shack handheld "High Power Video/Audio Tape Eraser" that I've used on DATs and VHS tapes, but I somehow doubt that would do much to a big reel of 2" tape. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Mike

Where are you? You need a belt type heavy duty eraser. I have access to one in Sausalito... L

Thanks for the info folks. I'll see if I can find access to a belt-type eraser in this area. Mike | |

The way we do it here is on a old big erasing machine that always blows the fuse, so one needs to hold the fuse ![]() It is basically a big magnet under a plate. So you put it on there turn it on and wait a little, then you turn it around and do it again. Then you put the box (paper) it came in under it and repeat steps 1 and two. It will be as clean (audiowise) as a new one

Hah hah, you can sleep on our couch while you're here, trying to earn the bucks for the gas back home... Studio I used to work in would erase tapes at $1 per cassette - 2" doesn't take any longer, right? But that was back in the 90s. Call around, or some gearslut will make an offer. G'luck! L
