budget??? makes a world of difference.

Lucid, RME, Mytek, Panasonic-Ramsa... the list goes on. Some are awesome and some are not. Also, is this just about AD or are you also into DA?

cheers,

I'm a fan of both mytek 8x96 series and apogee rosetta 800.

what he said... although i don't think the rosetta 800 can sound as nice as the mytek unless you get a big ben (apogees digital clock mothership) with it. (that said - i have a mytek everyday and have only used that generation of apogee converters a few times) one thing to think about is that if you are limited to a single ADAT port you will only be able to get 4 channels of 96k at a time through it - provided that both your converter and DAW are SMUX equipped. if you are on a budget and are willing to reconsider that 96k isn't terribly useful in everyday applications, lucid makes a decent 8 ch. AD/DA that can be had for around a grand. allegedly that converter can be greatly improved if it is modded by Jim Williams of Audio Upgrades fame.

personally, i'm still holding out for apogee to design a Rosetta 800X.

cheers,

Your right about the price but has any users have experience operating the Marian Adcon 8-Channel in action?

As far as I know smux is just a 96k version of adat light pipe protocal. DAW's don't need to be smux equiped just your computer interface needs to be.
