Do you also have onboard audio/audio card active on your computer besides the R16.
When i have seen that message before(in use by another application)it usually had something to do with that or media player trying to claim the application,(default settings).
Just a thought.

"If you do" have an other audio card in the mix.Disable that driver in device manager and then go to the zed pannel and select WMD/map outputs and drag no.1 to ch.17..no.2 to ch.18..That will take over the default audio for your computer.
Just push DIG MASTER TO L/R on the zed to listen to it.Everything will sound better with the zed audio card anyway.

Hey. For people who already have the ZED:
Just wanted to get some ideas as to how people are using the ST1 and ST2 stereo channels. I have yet to get to these. Thanks.

I use st 3 and 4 for stereo aux returns to L/R. If i wanted to eq the reverb returns, i would use st 1 or 2 wich you can also route to aux 1 or 2,or L/R.
You could send 4 mono effects and return them to st1/2/3/4.
Since st 1/2/3/4 is not routed to firewire, its mostly for live applications but they had to include them otherwise you would have no aux returns at mix down or for sending effects to monitor or main mixes live without using needed channels.
I guess if you ran out of channels live, you could use them to run keyboards and other line level instruments but you couldn't record them on a seperate track in the daws if your recording the gig.

Im not suggesting that you do this but i can only tell you what i would do in your situation.

I would take 15 minutes to verify that the ground wires and resistors are in place.
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/attac...nd-problem.pdf

Then i would re-install everything:except the onboard audio.
windows 7 operating system
zed R drivers
recording app.and or hardware.
That approach solves 90% of my issues

If that didn't work, i would contact A/H by phone preferably and go from there.
Its a pain but when i can't figure out what the problem is,i start from scratch.

Hopefully someone else will have a quicker solution.

thank you very much for the quick response and all your help i will do exactly all those things and hopefully its just the computer needing to be re-installed and not the grounding issues which i have a feeling it isn't do to the fact that the console works perfect with cubase and reaper. Once again thanks for your help.

Thanks,
Matt

i'm a bit miffed that the Zed dose not come with a 9 pin firewire cable or adapter for macs. Had the desk for several weeks now but only just got my imac and can't use it until i get the adapter.

hey guys, dumb question here but I'm still new to the concept of outboard effects. Say I want to run a delay or reverb guitar pedal on a track during mixing. How might I go about doing this? I checked the studio application picture and it said to run the st1 R/L into the effects unit then back through aux 3 and 4. I tried this but with no luck, any help would be very appreciated.

If the effect is stereo:

1-AUX out 1 and 2 to effects in L/R
2-Effects out L/R to ST 1 in (you could use st2,3 or 4,doesnt matter).
3-Then push the L/R button in at the bottom of ST 1.
4-Then, on the aux 1/2/3/4 strip on the right of the board, turn aux knobs 1and 2 to about 3/4.
5-The effect will now be available on all 16 channels using the aux 1and 2
knobs on the channel strips.

If the effect is mono, use aux 1 out only, return to st 1 left/access aux 1 ch strip knob.

I've been dreaming about the Zed-r16 since close to when it first came out.... and now I'm finally getting one! Just put an order in yesterday!

The past few months I've really improved my set up... I have been using Reaper the past couple years, but got Pro Tools 9 for Christmas! Running a 27" iMac with the i7 processor and 8gb of ram!

I'm so stoked to finally have one bad-ass solid recording and mixing set up!!

How do I get the added effect to record when I'm doing a mixdown? It comes through the board fine but when I send the channel to a new track on my daw and record the mixdown, it doesn't print..

Create a stereo track in your daws> "in 17/18". (on some daws> it will be "zed r16 stereo main") instead of 17/18.
That will print what you hear real time from the master buss.

Hey guys how you doin on this fine day?

This may seem like a noob question but i need help none the less.

Ive got a problem where i can't here any sound output after recording. Now i don't know if its desk related or DAW related.

I'm using the Zed R16 with a 27" i7 imac 12 gigs of ram and using Reaper as my DAW. (Latest firmware and drivers for the Zed and using OSX 10.6.4)

The problem i think lies in the way i have my speakers hooked up but im not sure. Currently i have a set of powered speakers hooked up to my imac through the headphone port. Now this is fine if i playback the raw file through say itunes. However when i hit play in Reaper i get no sound output.

I've tried to hook the speakers up to the control room channels on the desk for audio playback not monitoring (not sure if thats possible) it didn't work anyway.

Not sure if this is just my own noobishness or if there is actually a problem, any help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Scotty

lol. Im off for a couple months so im here to help.

Here's how you hook it up.
If your monitors have XLR , hook them up to the main outs on the zed.
If they're TRS, hook them up to 2track2 out.
The default in the zed pannel will allow you to listen to i-tunes and your computer from ch.1 and 2 on the zed.(push the dig ret pre in buttons on ch.1 and 2) to listen.
You can change that in the pannel to digital main 16/17 so it doesn't tie up ch.1 and 2 when your listenig to i-tune.To listen to i-tunes then, you would push the dig master to L/R on the zed.
Make sure you have the L/R buttons on the track fader strips pushed in, that sends everything to the master faders and in turn to the speakers.

Cavern thanks for your help. I have done as you said but i still don't get any sound output. I do however get the green signal led's on ch1 and 2 flashing along with the main meters as well so the signal is there but no sound output. Also when i press the dig master to L-R i get the main meters going when i play a song in itunes but no audio out.

My speakers are a cheap set of Opus One's Altronics - Your One Stop Audio Visual & Electronics Supplier (speakers work fine nothing wrong with them)

They have an RCA out for an external amp or plugging in a sub and a 3.5mm stereo in jack. I've got it plugged in to the stereo in jack coming out to two RCA's (a 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA L and R cable) with an RCA to TRS adapter which is then plugged into the 2track2 out.

i have the dig ret pre in buttons on ch.1 and 2 pushed along with the L/R buttons on the track fader strips pushed in.

I should also mention that in the Audio Device setting i have the Zed set to "use this device for sound output) is this correct?

Arrrrhahahaha i just did the most noobish thing sorry Cavern i have it all working fine. It DOSE help if you have the power to your powered speakers acutally turned on. Hey its been a long day lol

One other quick question how do i change the digital main 16/17 so it doesn't tie up ch.1 and 2 when your listenig to i-tunes?
