Think through how hard it is in practice to print an entire session to separate audio tracks.

Remember you only have 128 busses in HD (32 in LE).

This would be a massive win feature, yes even in realtime.

They already do default to "no input".

Honestly, I don't know how feasible that would be, since you wouldn't always want the sends to be the same... so really... just forget I even said anything.

However, right now, you can setup a Send and then hold down Alt and drag a copy of that Send over to several other tracks, which is better than nothing, but you can't do that same "Alt" copy/drag for outputs, so you have to navigate to the output setting on each channel. That's the feature I meant to ask for.

WATYF
If you have "link track & edit selection" activated, which I do all the time, just click in any of the tracks in the group & all the tracks in that group will be selected, then hold down shift-option while you set your OP or send or whatever & it will happen on all those tracks.

It would save me a ton of time if could do everything in one shot so when i have bounced down i can go home and turn off the lights. Also if the client after the bounce wants their data right there i don't have to keep them waiting around to explain why i have to track the processing afterwards in the first place.

The point is not whose way is right or wrong. The point is one should have the choice based on how you work. Its just an option that's all.
If you record your mix to a track instead of bouncing, you could record your outboard to tracks at the same time, just bring them up into tracks instead of auxes.

I do both RTD & BTD.

Also there is no latency compensation on tracks that are record enabled.

Sure we all have our own way of doing this procedure.
But I still don't get why or what your BTD.

Why don't you RTD (on multiple tracks) all of your material in one fell swoop?
When I RTD, I do a ITB and OTB version simultaneously.

If the Pro Tools session is at 24/48 you will still have the original .L.R files to give to mastering.

This didn't work for me. I activated Link Track & Edit, but clicking on one track in a group didn't select all of them, and holding shift while changing an output didn't change all of them.

BTW, what are the other benefits of Link Track & Edit Selection?

tried posting this the other day but the browser crapper out on me -

Please do not (!!!!) allow BTD while input-armed!

Depending which suite I'm working in, I'll have a TB setup thru PT. I used to do that on an aux. See where this is going? Having it on an audio with input armed won't let me record the CR conversations during a bounce. I know people who have been fired for letting it run open on an aux! (of course, the client was pissed about the banter on the track, but even more pissed about the content of the banter!)

Some of the guys I work with aren't savvy on the keyboard focus. If they have a selection (say, on track 2) and need to make an edit (say on track 62) they can just click on said track and bam! The selection appears. Also good for when you are selecting across a bunch of tracks and then you can immediately to track-related stuff to that group of tracks - change output/sends/etc. I've seen people drag a cursor over a bunch of tracks in the edit window and then make a new group (of tracks, not a region group) from that selection - because the link tracks was selected, and the hihlighted regions in edit window selected those tracks!

You could then select which one you want and simply hit "paste" and it would paste it in. It would make arranging things and re-arranging things soooo much easier. It might sound like a strange idea for people simply tracking and mixing but for anyone doing that sort of editing, working out ideas, remixing and even post it would be a godsend!

OK, I think I know what he meant. I was clicking on a track within a group in the mix window. He meant the edit window. If I click on a track within a group on the edit window, they all get selected. But holding down "Shift" still doesn't affect all of the outputs... only Alt+Shift.

I think you guys have converted me... Even just with playing around in a test session, I can see the benefit of having the track get selected any time you move the cursor into that track for edits.

so I have 12 tracks for the drums. I make a group by selecting the first track (kick-in, or often just 'in' and shift-click the last track 'room_R' and Apple-G - call it drums. While all these drums are still highlighted, I shift-option-select outputs (let's say bus1-2 for this example). Now my drums are going thru bus 1-2. Then you make a stereo aux looking for bus 1-2. I usually do it again (while holding ctrl, shift-option-ctrl-select outputs to bus 3-4) and I can parallel compress them. Create another aux for bus 3-4 Insert compressor/EQ on both auxes and bypass the first set. How about setting up the auxes after I made the drum tracks? Create
two stereo auxes, while they are both highlighted, hold shift-option-apple and select input for first aux to be bus-1-2. You'll see the second aux input to bus 3-4.
This works for sends too.

If you don't have the "Link Track and Edit" selected, you can also easily select all tracks in a group by clicking on the group letter to the left of the name in either the edit or mix window. The group doesn't have to be activated.

I would like to see the ability to store all channel settings as one preset. I set up a lot of mixes where certain instruments have the same plugins, outputs, and levels as starting points. The only way I've found to do this currently is to import the tracks from a previous session and manually copy everything.

You can set up a template or stationary pad, but undeniably one of the coolest things of PT's is Import Session Data.

Sort of. I really love that feature but I would love to have a simple clip board that I could simply select which copied section/item I want and hit paste.

Yeah but the UI sucks. Popup menus for every little track? Why not a grid with checkboxes/radio buttons?

Without a doubt! I was recently thinking about setting up a session to save my plug in chains. Basically if I created a really cool vocal chain that I like I would open up a "master recall" session and import it there (and do this every time using the same master recall session ). This way I have one session with all my plug in chains and cool channel setups that I can import session data from anytime.

Yes, I also have a master .ptf with all of my cool aux sends and plugins.
And I'll go one step further, I place my favorite 100 or 200 .ptf sessions on my iDisk so I can access them anywhere in the world online instantly.

Aside from the usual 'add ADC and unlimited tracks to LE' Im gonna add a couple of workflow things that help me immensely.

1. Add the Audiosuite menu as a right button mouse click option. They seem to be adding more and more right button shortcuts, and I think adding Audiosuite would be a brilliant idea. Just select the region/selection, right click and process.

2. More default/commonly used plugins in the RTAS plugin list. We have EQ & Compression, why not have one or two for each of the different plugin categories like modulation, harmonic etc etc. Very useful for those with a large amount of plugins.

3. Allow the use of shift clicking on Pan and Volume settings to make adjustments in fine increments in the Edit window as opposed to just the Mix window. I shouldn't have to open my Mix window to do this. Many of us work with one wide LCD as opposed to 2 monitors. Also, AFAK, you cant adjust in fine increments with the shift key in the Mix window when it has been narrowed. Please change this. PITA when working with a lot of tracks/busses.

Thats pretty much the main ones. Most of the others like moving plugs whilst tracks is playing and more auxes etc. have all been mentioned.

Good thread. Doubt Digi is monitoring though. :(
