IS there any way to reduce latency in a 003 in protools besides lowering the buffe H/W buffer Size in the playback engine?? I lowered my setting to 120 samples ans still have latency...I am using a sm57 as my mic and a monster cable to my API 312 pre

| The only two ways to lower latency are to decrease the sample buffer size and/or increase the sample rate. 88.2k will have half the latency of 44.1k at a given sample buffer size. If your system is choking at lower latencies, you may have some system issues, or you may simply need a more powerful computer. What are the specs on your computer?

I found that the problem was that I was running some plugins on my Master fader and that was causing the latency....I heard about this trick where you put a McDSP AC1 on the master fader before you start mixing and mix through it to give the song a warm anaolg feel. How do I keep plugins from giving me lateny in my pro tools rig??

the only way that I know is to use plug ins with no latency. Or record with no plug ins or just make the plug ins inactive , this is not the same as only bypassing the plug ins, bypassing the plug ins will still give you latency. Im in a mac, but in windows is something similar. To make plug ins inactive HOLD Control+Apple key and click on the plug in (in the insert part of the track) To see the plug in latency( if you have 2 plug ins it will show the sum of the plug ins latencies) Hold the apple key and click 2 times in the volume window(I dont remember how it is called, but it is where it shows the volume level ej. -0.8) Hope this helps. |

Do yourself a favor, GO for the analog feel when your recording; plug ins are cool; sure; but not for that. They smear the track i-m-e..I've only ever heard ONE tape simulator plug in I felt worked the way its intended; Crane Song Phoenix for PTHD. There might be others out there but to me; why waste time with software when the real deal is better.
