Thread Starter | Eventide DSP 4000 - Any weak point?
Thanks in advance and sorry for stupid question.. I've searched tremendous amount of threads about eventide dsp 4000 and still confused. Some guys saying 4000 is sterlie otherwise 3000 is thick. I thought they have totally different architecture and concept (4000 is modular, more flexible..) but on Ebay, 4000 and 3000 have almost same used price! (3000 is only $200 around cheaper than 4000).. DSP 4000 is not popular? I've seen 4000s at many professional studio and famous mixers like Bob Clearmountain or Mike 'Spike' Stent raves about 4000... am I wrong? Gearslutz prefer 3000 to 4000? As a matter of fact, I won 4000 on eBay instead of eclipse and still waiting for it. Please share your wisdom slutz.. gracias |

I'm still digging into the unit and all of its features but so far I really like its Micro Pitch Shift effect. I also found a really nice room reverb that worked awesome on a piano (virtual instrument) that needed to come alive a little bit. Very happy DSP4000 user here , great unit indeed. I'd be great to here more comments from other users especially comparing it to a 3000.

I had an Orville for many years. Ultimately I decided I didn't like it enough to keep it. An Orville is basically 2 4000 in one box capable of 96KHz on some algos. First, my impression was that the reverbs were vastly underrated. They don't get much press, but are great! Second, the pitch shifting left a lot to be desired. It's great for thickening and for weird effects, but not good enough for intelligent pitch shifting of vocals. Third, the really downer of all Eventides is the interface which is arcane, opaque, and kills your flow in the studio. In this age of plugins, there are many other ways to get what you want that are easier to work with. As to you question of H3000 v. 4000, the main ingredient of the 4000 is better algos and digital I/O (not that its easy to configure). For me, that means the 4000 is the minimum box that would work in my studio. The 3000 would make a great guitar rig though. HTH.

thank you so much wise slutz! Of course there are many brilliant plugins that do easily blow away hardware effects.. but I think eventide things are slightly different.. I agree it's hard to access the parameters or edit patch :( some kinda difficult.. Any other opinions? thanks in advance. |
