Long Frame patchbay connectors are 2 conductor and a shield. Guitar type 1/4" are just 1 conductor and a shield. The shape of the tip is slightly different between them as well. Here are a couple of Switchcraft links that might help: 1/4" Longframe: Switchcraft 1/4" Tip/Sleeve (guitar) and 1/4" TRS (stereo or balanced audio): Switchcraft |

If your referring to the standard 1/4" tip, ring sleeve then all you have to do is compare them side by side, the spacing between tip and ring are different. Standard 1/4" will work but not ideal, #482. Military can be a different size |

Most of the time you can use them interchangeably. Sometimes you can't. More often than not you can use a Type 2 connector for Type 1 applications. Not so often the other way around. I'm not sure why we ended up with two variants of the same connector. Patent or licensing, maybe?
