Thread Starter | There is nothing between the two? Really!?!?
So I find myself uninspired day after day listening to my current headphone setup in my studio. Just to let you know what I'm using... MTR... ProTools HD3 Console... SSL AWS 900 Conversion... Apogee AD16 and DA16 Headphone System... Furman HDS6 and HR6 Remote Mixers I really hate having to run ethernet all over the studio and honestly most musicians I work with don't want to make their own mix... (or they can never remember how!... usually drummers.. hahaha!) I am wired for 1/4" TRS and XLR in all of my booths and live room...FYI. I would love to find a few good power (headphone) amps and find some passive volume boxes to keep by the clients and just make their mix for them while still allowing them main volume control. My problem is, all I can find is really expensive audiophile amps (grace designs and the like) and really cheep low quality boxes (rane, furman, presonus) that really don't hold up at a drummers preferred listening volume. There has got to be something between the two!!! I really want to be able to run line level through my pre-existing TRS wall panels and still give my clients volume control without putting a $1500 grace box at the drummers feet or just have it chillin' on a stool somewhere. That sounds like I'm just asking for a bad day! Maybe thats my only option if this is what I want, but Im thinking one of you true gear heads out there has a solution for me... I'm hopin you do! Thanks in advance! |

What headphones are you using? For drummers, I would use a kind that has major isolation, like DJ headphones or something. Make sure they are closed for sure. I'd use a beyer 770 dt... and it works fine for me. Can't talk about amps though.

yeppers! Beyers are great and i am using the DT770s in fact.. Sound great coming out of the board, but sound like a wet fart on the other side of the glass... Thanks for the comment though... |
