sick mic... help ! david bock? blue? korby?

hey
i've got a soundelux u99 (rev A) that i've had since they came out (2000?-2001?) and it's my main mic along with an R-84. after doing a month of live jazz in a smoke filled club (still legal in nc) i took it apart to check for diaphragm build up and found a flake of gold missing from the diaphragm. i was pretty upset, can't afford much right now and have many gigs booked. i was wondering if there was a way to switch the wires going to the diaphragm to make the back be the front, since i use it in cardioid 90percent of the time? the noted values on the front and back only deviate by .3
otherwise where do i get a new capsule?
thanks

so... you noticed a gold flake missing??

who cares... how's it sound?? Has the sound actually become degraded??

In any case, first place I'd call is Bock Audio of course.. if you're looking for repair...
These companies can normally just give you a repair quote if you tell them what problem you've experienced.

Good luck,

James Gangwer was the factory-authorized Soundeluxe repair guy and he did an awesome job on my U95. The turnaround time was very quick.

There's a wire mounted on each side of the capsule. Switch the ends that aren't connected to the capsule (you want the ends that go to the pcb). Verify that you are not changing a grounding wire in any way, and only these two other wires.

Just want to make sure you know: Don't touch or mess with the wire ends actually attached to the capsule. You want to switch the other ends of the wires and re-solder them.

But yeah, contact the company and see if they can do something for you first.

Customer service as good as it gets

I don't know where you bought your mic but Bradley Lunde at Transaudio Group helped me get my Soundelux ifet7 looked at when I had a problem with it. Its was over three years old and I bought it used and they took care of me like I was their best customer. David Bock himself worked on it. These guys went way above the call of duty. Great company and great service!

As far as their function, no. And that particular mic capsule is mounted dead center and has a uniform distance between it and the grill all the way around. Sweep between the different directional modes and listen closely. And we're talking about a fairly easy procedure to fix this so you're using the other side for cardioid. That gold can flake off if you have someone clean it the wrong way even. These good mics are delicate things.
