| Gear Head | You can use spdif to send audio I/O and wordclock as well. One thing is that I think the 003 doesn't support an external word clock above 48khz, correct me if I'm wrong. So you can't use the Apogee's clock at higher sample rates (bummer). Also, if you're using low latency monitoring, you have to use the 003's Out 1/2, or you'll get an audible delay coming out of the Rosetta. As far as monitoring goes, you'll need a monitor controller to switch between the 003 outs and the Rosetta outs. Or if you don't have the dough you might be able to take the Rosetta outs to the Aux input of the 003, but you'll probably lose something in the translation. I have a Apogee PSX-100 with a 003 and I use spdif, clocking to Apogee. I have a monitor controller, and only use the Apogee's outputs if I'm mixing, or I'm not using low latency monitoring.

Don't know about the word clock, but it's irrelevant if you're only using the 200 with the 003. Connect via SPDIF (both ways), apogee as master, 003 as slave. Will go up to 96k like this - it's the ADAT that doesn't work above 48k.

Sweet man, congrats on making the step up from Digidesign convulsion,um, I mean conversion. I hope my step up to lavry black is the same way! Its funny because Ive been with digi since 1999 with the 001. I was probably the first in my county to have it and now almost ten years later, my 003 leaves me with something to be desired. I am a sucker for pro tools man!!!! on Digi interfaces.

I have this exact set up myself. You can clock the 003 via Wordclock at 96k. Oddly, I can't start up Pro Tools with external clock or it just hangs. I have to start with internal clock, then switch to word clock inside the session. S.

Hey Peeder, Bug fixed as of 3:39 Zulu time today. Pro Tools 7.4.2 pre release has finally fixed it. Opened a 96k 24 bit session today slaved to rosetta word clock and it came up perfectly. I wept openly at the sight. S.

I'm looking into this setup.... I have an 003 and I want to get the Rosetta 200. Will clocking off of the Rosetta improve the quality of the end result files coming out of PTLE (bounces, prints, etc.)? I know that better monitoring will help my hearing and let me improve the work I do, so there is that... but anything beyond that? (I don't record to PT, I track elsewere and move the files into PTLE. It seems to suck the life out of perfectly good tracks.)

Of course it will help your monitoring, But when you're bouncing, it's all internal. no AD/DA in involved. AD is involved when you're recording tracks with the rosetta 200 into protools. That is where improvement will be heard, on your actual tracks that were recorded with the rosetta converters. So if you track with the rosetta, then your end product will sound better, yes.

Yes, thank you... I understand. I actually have the Rosetta 200 now and have experimented with different routing options to see what happens. The best way to go for me is running through the Rosetta and into a CDR900.

Have you tracked with it? If so do you hear any noticeable latency as stated in the previous post? I'm concerned because I just ordered one and plan to use it for tracking and monitoring simultaneously for it's good AD/DA. Thanks.
