AUX. SEND AND RETURN. stereo cables?

I've set up some effects on aux 1 of my board- delay, pitch, reverb.
I've got the amount of send signal from channel 1 full throttle, and the amount of return on the aux. full throttle. why am i still hearing more dry signal, and hardly any wet? I'm using mono cables, do these need to be stereo? The idea is to basiclly have an effects channel strip set up
on aux 1, and have channels 1-24 available to channel through the effects
so i don't have to keep unplugging a bass guitar to plug a keyboard in to use the same effects set up.What am i missing?

It might help to let people know what board you are using...

Sounds to me like your FX unit needs to be set to 100% wet - have you done this?

What are you using for FX?

Well, I,m using a Moog Murf, Holy Stain, and Line6 green delay. I was running my guitar through this effect chain straight into channel one of the board, and it sounded nice, so i tried it with bass and keys, still sounded great. So instead of continuouslly unplugging one instrument for another, I put that effects chain on the aux one buss thinking I,ll keep everything hooked up to the board on their own channel, and just send whatever instrument I want to use to the effects buss via send and return.Am I misunderstanding how this works? The effects are set the same as when I,m running just an instrument through them, so no, they are not at 100% wet, but that would chage the balance drastically, but I think i get what your saying, I probablly need to set amount of dry-wet by the send and return after effects units are at full throttle wet??Is this correct?

Yes, this is the way you set up an effects send/return. Set your effects to 100% wet and adjust the balance with your send/return levels. At first I wondered if you had a Mackie, as they take TRS 'Y' cords for aux sends, which I thought might be what you were talking about. Good luck!

Thanks guys, the board is new to me, but i do think it does take the y split.I printed the manual and remember something about this.(don't have it now, I,m at work). It would be cool to have the set uplike this, but i usually track by myself, rarely a mutilple send type of affair, so maybe I,ll stick the effects on the aux. 1 direct out and just send everything i single track through it, that way i could control the effects from the effects boxes themselves, because they will be mounted @ my rack for easy access, and i could still keep all my instruments plugged in and just tell which one i want to go through the aux. direct out. I,ll just use that one channel to send all my stuff to cubase. I think this method will work.
Any other options come to mind? Please let me know.
Thanks.
Steelyfan.
