| DIGI003 Rack Quick question that i have been trying to figure out. I am looking to purchase a digi003 rack and was wondering that if in the future i could possibly purchase another 003rack to double my inputs (so basically have two 003 racks running at the same time) just wondering if that was possible. Im looking for the most inexpensive way for 8 simultaneous inputs. I have looked into Logic and possibly pro tools m-powered but i am most fluent with pro tools. the reason i dont choose m powered is that i hear it has a more restricted amount of features (dont know if this is true) thanks, nick |

I would also reccomend familiarizing yourself with the 003 Rack. You stated that you need to have 8 simultaneous inputs. 1- 003Rack surpasses 8 inputs, it is just each input does not offer an analog preamp stage. For example, you could use the ADAT IN to route 8 channels of digital audio into Pro Tools. You could use any 8 channel preamp with an ADAT output to achieve this (Many types, PreSonus, Focusrite, etc etc). In addition, you have 4 balanced analog inputs on the back of the unit as well as SPDIF inputs. This ultimately gives you a total of 18 inputs for 1-003 Rack. In addition, familiarize yourself with the main differences between software. If you purchase a 003Rack, it will come with Pro Tools LE, so buying M-Powered would be a waste of money considering you would already have software. For further information, I suggest going to Digidesign's homepage, all of this information can be found pretty easily via their website. Hope this helps. Cheers.

...if you're interested in scoring to picture or doing any kind of serious post-production sound work, than LE or HD is the only way to go in Digi land as M-powered does not support SMPTE timecode. Again, depends on what you want to do. If you only ever plan on doing music recording, then you may as well go with the cheaper m-audio hardware...I haven't looked at the configurations, but I'm fairly sure that there's a cheaper way to get way more inputs than what you're planning.
