Thread Starter | Ramsa Console...
A few days ago i saw a RAMSA console in a old store laying on the floor, and being sold very cheap. The console did look col and vintage (in fact it is very old and was bought from a TV channel as i found out) but i never heard of this brand before. So i did a quick search and found great reviews about this brand. The model there i believe was the 8724 looking at some pictures on internet. One guy said these were sold for about 15,000US in the mid 80s, but I don't know if thats true. Well, any knowleadge on these consoles? Specially this one? If you're saying this console kicks ass, and was sold for about 15 grand 20 years ago, I'm going to buy it asap! Its a bargain It looks in good condition, but i'd still have to buy it and try how it works in that case. Well. and thoughts appreciated Cheers |

There are some who would say that almost anything is worth buying if it's cheap enough. I don't recall the original list for the 8724, but that's absolutely no reflection at all on what it's worth right now. I'd say it's worth a few hundred, maybe more if it's in really good shape, but it's not a terrific or flexible console by any means. Make sure you get the power supply with it if you get it. I've never been a big fan of 80's-90's RAMSAs, mostly because I don't think their pres have enough pad capability (anything at line level always comes in too hot), and I could never get the EQ to do what I expected it to do, sculpting-wise. perhaps the EQ was my fault, but the pres were not. YMMV. I worked with them for about eight years, but I have not used the 8724 specifically. Craig |

Grab anything by Ramsa. They are incredible. The EQ is great, and most engineers will tell you that the pres are great also. I love mine. They also have incredible internal consistancy, from what my tech tells me, very, very well speced, and well built. DP |

You could do worse, but they are not a great console. If you breally look at it you can tell that RAMSA was really trying to imitate the success of the Yamaha PM1000s and 2000s. They were decently built because they were really Panasonic's "pro" line. The EQ was pretty weird, but all Japanese EQ is weird to me. They were pretty plastic like. I have seen a few in use. I have mixed on a few RAMSAs live (maybe once in a studio.) They were NEVER spec'd on tour riders. I'd say PASS. |
