| How small can a drum booth be? I'm gonna build my new studio soon, I have limited space but would love a small drum booth, and as I am into very focused , dry, tight and mat drum sounds in 70s flavour, I can imagine a small booth would be good for me, but I was wondering how big are the small booths in "Big" studios ?

| As small as a drum kit.. Any bigger is a bonus these days!

| Is it a trend that dictates this?

| I had a 9x7 room that worked decently. I had tons of room treatment though but it produced a very dry sound that worked in most cases. I do love my 35x20 room much better though. |

| Not many big studios have small drum rooms these days. the dry sound not being fashionable. I agree with the comment about kit size dictating. A 9 x 7' room would be OK. 10' would cover most bases I guess. How high would the ceiling be?

| Don't forget that you need room to move around and set up stands. It sucks to have to climb over everything to adjust the snare mic, slows the session down too. |

| a couple years back i recorded in a booth in the east village that was basically a closet; jazz kit only, nothing bigger would've fit. lots of fun, sounded great, very 70's. gregoire del ubk .

| I have a 12/10 drum booth. It was designed and treated pretty well. I built a bigger drum room so I don't use it for drums much more. Mostly because its just a pain to mic a kit in a small room. I do alot of metal, so the bands have big kits. You can hear some samples of the small room at my site. sonicpalacemusic.com Matt |
