Thread Starter | company/studio that records your 2-track master to 2inch tape, then back to digital ?
I remember reading about a company/studio that would record the 2-track masters you sent them to 2inch tape, then back to digital, and back to you.. that was discussed a couple years ago if I remember right.. but I've had no luck finding the thread with the search function.. I think the company was in germany ? not sure.. Any of y'all remember the name ? and/or tried it already ? not sure how useful it would end up being. |

This is some modified mastering deck that uses 2" tape? Sounds like a huge waste of time and money to me. Nobody buys or doesnt buy your record because it was bounced to tape or not. That has zero 0 ZERO impact on sales. Try letting someone else mix it if you dont like the sound. |

it's not about selling more records though ![]() sure, bouncing to tape won't make your mixes better, but I'm thinking it might make them different, in an interesting way.. years ago I used to bounce some of my mixes to cassette tape at 9.5cm/s... not that I would get great results but it gave them a nice little vibe.. good enough for what I was doing at the time.. got a 1/4 inch reel to reel a bit later but it died on me after a couple weeks. now I just remembered about that studio/thing/company, and I'm like why not try, I think it was pretty cheap.. if only I could remember the name... |

...well, not if you produce in Ableton and the guy from the mastering studio will tell you, that it sounds a little digitally jittered. So the ME comes up with the idea to transfer the whole mix to tape and back again: voilĂ - the grittiness is gone and everyone raves about the great sound of this producers' mixes... This is actually a true story!

2" tape of what format? 2" 16 track, 1" 8 track, 1/2" 4 track and 1/4" half track ALL have the same track width. Other than the specific deck or tape formula, it would be the same on any of these formats. 2" 24 track has a narrower track width than these examples. The noise floor would be slightly higher and the sound a bit less wonderful and analog like. I'll transfer them to analog and back for you. I can do 2" 24 track, 1/2" 4 , 1/4" 4 track and 1/4" 2 track. My tape decks are posted on the thread called "New Analog Multitracks.... " on page #5. PM me if you want to do it. I'll give you a fair price. |
