Getting ready to take the plunge. I will need up to 12 pre amps. I record mostly rock music. Usually the loud and heavy side. Punk/thrash/skate. I am thinking about filling a SCA rack with 4 A12's and 4 N72's and getting something like a Sytek MXP4 ($3900 total). That way I'll have a thirds each color and transparent. But I'm also tossing around the idea of just getting the real API 3124. Seems like it'll cost around $600 more to get the real thing. Got to be worth it for the resell value alone, right? Then again I'd be surprised if I'd be looking to sell. Considering that, the SCA unit being half full drives the per channel cost up a bit. What other suggestions can you guys give me for crunchy, heavy guitars? Well, what would you do? Thanks. |

I'd go for the API. I don't have any experience with the SCA pres but I've never been let down by the API's. They seem to work really well on lots of things, vox included.

Another vote for the API 3124.
