speck xtramix users?

I'm buying a Speck Electronics xtramix rack mixer tomorrow, for very very cheap , the mixer has been used in 1 studio only to feed keyboard submixes, and i know it's working fine, with a few noisy pots only...

Is this thing cool? mabye to feed my preamps thru it , as a patch bay, or even sub mix thing with it?

I need some advice because i'm buying it tomorrow morning

Any users, advice ? thanks

check the version! the later ones called cxi (version 5 I think) have balanced input, and more headroom, and are therefore more expensive (twice as much, or more). You can check with Vince Poulos (also posts here on GS) about what version it is, and how much an overhaul would cost, if needed. Very helpful, and friendly service.

as for the mixer itself, it is very nice, clean, punchy, allows different characters to be combined. huge amount of functions in 4 rack spaces. can't go wrong with that. yes, it is very useful as a patchbay with volume and routing. the master section is also cool, with good functionality.

hope this helps

A very good mixer. I have one primarily for keyboards but also effect returns. I have the non balanced earlier one and the headroom on this is still at least +18db so it's no problem.

I'll agree with everything reptil says regarding sound quality.

If you need to overhaul yours it'll cost $750 and Vince told me he was thinking of no longer doing the revamping since it was a big pain, so you should check with him before you purchase if you plan to have that done.

If you want, email me with the serial number and we'll tell you the version, birth date, and the service history of the Xtramix you are looking at.

I'm a very happy owner of the Speck Xtramix. I use it for summing my DAW as well as effects and I even use it to record Synth with very good and clean results.

Headroom never was a problem in any situation.

I have One, bought from Mercenary... (mine had a nice trip to Italy! )
It's really great machine , I use it as line mixer to hook up my outboard, and final summing... sounds fine, and in 4 rack units it's a great deal if U have not so much space!

Add another thumbsup on the Xtramix! Mine routs my MIDI sound modules into my 02R96V2, but I'm considering doing some rewiring to take full advantage of it's flexibility.

I'm a recent owner of the Xtramix cxi Ver 5b and am totally loving how versatile and quiet this thing is. Vince has spent a considerable amount of his valuable time over the last 2-3 weeks helping me over the phone with ground loop/hum type problems revealed by but not due to the Xtramix itself. The hum is now completely eliminated thanks to a combination of AC rerouting, telescoping shields etc. at Vince's suggestions. Vince's really took the time to understand my AC configuration and shielding scheme along with equipment being used etc. A true engineer and great guy. I will definitely be looking at more of his products (EQ next) in the future. Thanks again Vince.

Great mixer.
Incredible routing options.
Don't fret, if it takes a bit to wrap your head around the routing options.

I got one for FX returns, 'cause I was running out of channels on my G-Series. (It replaced a 1604 that did the same thing previously) Works well, but the pots, especially the pans are rather inconsistent positionally. Sounds fine though.
