What's The Scoop With Duende?

I'm new here and believe this is my first Gearslutz post.

I have a PT Digi003 setup running on a PC and I've been thinking about getting a Duende setup. I've heard about problems with latency when using Firewire.

Are there problems with Firewire latency or any other type of compatibility problems when using Duende?

I am also contemplating getting the SSL 4000 plugs to relieve a some of the duties from my CPU.

Any info will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Bob

Try the waves ssl plugs and the APA 32 accelerator, cheaper and the APA runs on ethernet which I say is faster. I cant debate over digital cable topography In verses through and whatnot. All I know is that its faster.

Plus I use the waves ssl plugs religiously. I spend alot of time around real 4000Gs and the waves stuff sounds impeccably similar (especially the buss compressor).

Give it a shot.

Evan,

How many SSL channel strips will the APA 32 run at one time? Will I be able to get 32 channels?

You cannot run the waves SSL plug ins on the APA units
with a fast machine you can run a boatload of the Native waves SSL

Why can't you run the SSL on the APA 32?

+1 on Native SSL. You can run lots of instances with a decent proc. Im running Intel 2.13 Core 2 Duo and have opened 30+ instances of SSL Channel with no problems.

All hardware accelerated plugins introduce 2x the hardware buffer setting (in the Plaback Engine Dialog) of latency. But if you have one of them on every channel, all the channels will play back in time. Any channels you don't have one on, just put a Time Adjuster Long plugin on it, set to 2x the buffer setting (e.g. 2048).

Any plugins on the 2 bus won't matter as to latency.

My Duende works fine, I think it sounds better than the Waves versions. (And btw it's for sale cheap in the classifieds section...I bought an analog SSL-style comp.)
