| Lives for gear | BEST sounding interface under 600k?
hey folks, im looking for a new interface under 600u$, what would you suggest? pci, usb, fw....anything goes. my greatest need is a great sounding stereo output, since my main activity is electronic music production. the only thing i'll be recording is some synths that can be managed under 2 mono line inputs. i was looking for a delta 1010 or a motu ultralite, but browsing around i've found that their outputs dont give THAT sound quality. ![]() cheers and thx in advance! |

If you're on a Mac, the only choice I can recommend in this price range would be the Apogee Duet, which is a buss powered Fire wire interface for Mac OS. The cost of the microphone preamplifier's alone are worth the price of the unit. Not to mention the AD/DA converters along with very agile DAW control.

The duet is great, but for $600,000 you can do ALOT better. |

He meant 600AU, not 6K. Good way to get people to read the thread though! I was like "what the"?

I got a "hacked" mac here (pc hardware smoothly running osx86) but I also have to supply the windows environment...so mac-exclusive stuff is out of question. I forgot to mention that important detail! Thx anyway, keep it coming! |

| So the question is what interface will run on a Hackintosh? Are you finding the Hackintosh works with any mac stuff you throw at it? That's an interesting topic in and of itself.

I don't know if it'll run on your mad max machine, but I've heard good things about the TC box: t.c. electronic | Konnekt 24D FireWire Audio | 967-000011 | B&H= |

My interface now is a shitty m-audio mobilepre, which runs natively on the crackosx86. I also had experiences with some edirols (cant remember the models), m-audio fw410 and motu ultralite/828fw. all fully-functional and bug-free! But lets keep in mind that i have to feed the windows environment - my main DAW is cubase sx3 and a full migration to mac (where I run logic8) is something I'll not be doing for many reasons which doesn't have place here. ![]() The TC looks great, got all the items I currently need - gonna browse around for some reviews! Thanks once again guys! (PS and Off-topic: my version of crackosx is KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1intel_SSE2_SSE3. If anyone is interested in finding out more about running osx86 on non-mac computers, check out this great osx86 wiki with tons of info, tutorials, tests, etc.) Last edited by diogo_c; 19th May 2008 at 10:31 PM.. Works with every interface compatible with osx as far as I've tried. (Mbox2, tascam US, motu 424, built-in :p ) Pzz | |
