Agreed. A top shelf mic paired with the cheapest mass-market cable suggests odd priorities when for just a few dollars more you can have a more robust cable from one of the several industry standard pro brands mentioned.

Beyond that, however, is where the province of the snake-oil salesmen begins (and the law of diminishing returns applies).

Don't expect to hear a difference in cables until everything else is fixed.

But after you have the room right.. the monitoring chain right... high-end converters... and sitting in the sweet spot, great expensive cables makes the icing taste just a little sweeter!
