New Audiointerface

I'm planning on replacing my two wordclock daisy chained Echo Audio Layla 24's in the studio. They've been around for about 7 years so the timing seems right for a replacement.
My studio is no high end studio and the budget is between 900-1300 $.
What I need is 12-16 analog in, S/PDIF or AES/EBU and MIDI in/out (well could get a seperate box for this really). All this for the PC platform.

What I want is the best A/D possible for that amount of money.

This is where I need you slutz out there

The options I've found so far:

(Used) Motu 192HD (maybe do the BL mod, maybe figure out how to do it my self, I'm pretty handy with the solder) (MOTU.com - MOTU HD192 Overview)

Mackie 1200F (bad converters/soundquality?) (Mackie - Onyx 1200F)

Echo Audio Audiofire 12 (Firewire, maybe not so stable) (Echo Digital Audio Corporation)

TC konnekt 48 (StudioKonnekt 48)

What do you guys say? What would result in the best audio quality? What would you choose?

To me it seems that a Black Lion modded Motu 192HD should result in better audioquality than Echo Audio Audiofire 12?

I'm also thinking about buying an old Apogee AD16? Is the older version in the same class as these other options ?

The other thing I have against the Audiofire 12 is that it's a firewire interface. I already own and use a Liquid Mix. Two firewire interfaces in one DAW is asking for trouble?
And by the way, a Motu HD192 with a PCIexpress card should result in a more stable system with lower latency and lesser strain on the CPU?
