Depends a bit on whether you're prepared to risk going for used gear. If you do (and you choose carefully) your money will go a little further.

Given your budget, you might like to first look around for a used Yamaha REV500. They turn up secondhand for several hundred and are well worth that. They sound better than they should given their age and price.

Another pair of options you may find worth checking out are the Kurzweil Rumour and/or the Kurzweil Mangler both of which can be had new for around $500, and sound better than they ought to for that price.

Hi Keyflo,
I guess I didn't make it sufficiently clear, but Kurzweil units I mentioned are current models and the prices I gave are for "fresh out of the box" gear.

Now I confess you have got *me* confused. If you're budget is $400-$1,000, I'd have thought that the PCM91 is way off the scale (current list price is $3,129.95). A good unit to be sure, but "fresh out of the box", even at street prices (ie around $2k) it's double the upper limit of your stated budget!

The way you worded your OP, I took it you were looking for *multiple* outboard units with what you currently have to spend?! The PCM91 would be a good option as one of multiple purchases if your total budget was $4,000-$10,000. Was there a zero or two missin' there??
