| Air Conditioner GEAR I HATE TO HAVE TO BUY! Well, I have been lucky since I built the wall and started to finish out my control room in what was once my garage. Texas winters are mild enough that even on the coldest nights the MCI538C console kept the room warm. Now it is approaching the '90s and will probably stay above 90 degrees until September. I gotta' buy an air conditioner! ....and finish insulating the back of THE WALL. BTW... the 538C produces the equivalent BTUs as a one ton HVAC unit! Like my friend who has my old room in a commercial building says... he has never had the heat on in the control room EVER! It has it's own HVAC unit. When I had the room I can recall having to run the AC in January!

| 1 ton of cooling =12,000 BTU Sounds like you need about 3 to 4 tons of cooling with a low ambient kit.

| Fujitsu ductless mini-split heatpump...very quiet....runs down to 14 f outdoor temp. Yay.

| The was a post not too long ago on a Mitsubishi air conditioner that looked interesting. I went to the web site and saw that they are supoosed to be very quiet and just a few days ago I saw a TV ad on them. Might be woth checking into. Russ Nashville "In Order To Predict The Future ... | Hmmmmmmmmmmm........ maybe so! I was out there this morning working on my plasma meters. It was tolerable until about noon, but I also had the doors to the outside wide open, Nice breeze. It got hot after a while, but it might have been my frustration with the motherhumping plasmas that got me hot. That's another $#@%& story!

| AC's running whenever the console and gear is powered up. Cycling as needed. One for the CRM, one for the STudio. Distance and baffled ducting is the only way to get the noise to acceptable levels. I'm NOT turning it off when recording. That's a sure fire groove buster and a spectacular way to get poor performances!  Not to mention loose friends and clients.

| dbbubba - although you'll hate dishing out the cash for a 3-4 ton unit up front, years down the road, you'll look back and swear that it was the BEST thing you ever bought!!!

| Oh... it isn't the fact that I wouldn't WANT to put in a 3 or 4 ton unit. IT'S THE COST! It would be separate from the rest of the house which is zoned. There is a 3 ton regular HVAC system on the living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast area and spare den. There is a 2 ton heatpump on the three bedrooms and two baths. There is only a sliding door between the areas, so it works out well. I am kinda' down on heatpumps because when the 3 ton unit went out I replaced it with a regular or non-heatpump compressor. It seems that my usage has gone DOWN! My good friend just installed a new 5 ton system at his house.... $12.5K  That ain't gonna' happen in my room!  Once I complete the wall it will help. I only have one side of sheetrock up and no insulation. The attic has no insulation either... yet. It is a lot of work and $$$$. Where do you stop with a hobby gone crazy? My old studio building had THREE 4 ton and one 5 ton industrial HVAC units! Offices unit #1, offices unit #2, studio and control room. It was so quiet that you couldn't heard ANY of the units running. I had a guy named Tony that traded me HVAC work for production/recording. I recorded a lot of mexican music for him! It was good deal actually! (He also sold me a mint Ampeg SB-12 guitar amp for $75.00!!!!) Where's Tony now? TONY!!!! HELP!!!!

Why not be comfortable from the outset, and prolong the life of your gear while you're at it??

| What's the big deal? I already did it TWICE in the past! THIRD TIMES A CHARM! Kick me. I own a recording studio. Hell... it USED to be cool! Now, EVERYONE owns a "recording studio!" At least a damn DAW / ITB rig could go back in this nice AIR CONDITIONED den!

| Big consoles take a commitment level, no doubt about it. Everyone wants to fantasize about having one, but installing and maintaining one is a different story.....no??? Just sell that U48 you've been keeping in the closet for a rainy day, and since the sun is blazing, trade it in for a nice HVAC unit to keep you chipper and chillin' all summer long.  Oh, on the business thing.......shame on you!!! You should know better by now.

| We're busy installing ours. It's costing us $11K, and that is with half of it custom built by ourselves. The commercial silencers , etc, wouldn't have done what we needed them to do. We're also underground. So we have legal requirements with regards to the amount of fresh air that needs to be supplied. Good luck with yours. |
