Monitor Speakers on a budget

Just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the best monitor speakers in the $500 range. Would be for a tracking studio, no serious mixing happening here. Thanks for your thoughts,
P

I might be selling my Tannoy System 600's and upgrading to some more expensive ones - the tannoy system 12 dMt's
pM me if you are interested. I wa thinking $300 plus shipping, which might be around $50. Check the Tannoy website for spec's. I think they are pretty damn good for the price.

My thoughts are:
Seeing as your monitors are your gateway to the sound, is it the correct decision to skimp on them?
Why do you think that tracking monitors can be of lesser quality than mixing monitors?
