| Gear addict | Electric Guitar Mic .... yet again i have of course a few sm57's and 2x 421's ... I use them both pretty close mic'd on the cab, for heavy distorted guitars. and my question is if i bought and used an Audix i5 in a similar situation (quite close mic'd). Do you guys find you get a similar (yet different) sound that is definitely worth keeping in your mix ... when compared to a 57 and a 421. Your help is always much appreciated?

| The I-5 is pretty close to a 57. Get something really different like and RE10 or a PR30. -tINY |

| Gear addict | sweet thanks for that. You usually keep these mics in your mix? (as in most of the time) i know Dallas Green from alexisonfire (canadian melo metal) uses the PR30

| Gear Head | I'm not a fan of the i5 specifically because it sounds so similar to a 57. what does your Budget look like?? Apex 205 is a nice sounding but cheap ribbon mic. check out Octava mics as well but for electric guitar nothing sounds sweeter than a ribbon. RCA77 if you can swing it!

| Beyer M88 is nice on electric guitar, I tend to use an M88 and a 421, and sometime a 414 TL II with those 2

| What to keep in a mix depends on what sounds best. The PR30 is my go-to these days. -tINY |
