Man the Kinks are so incredible. I got a "foreign" album called "a golden hour of the kinks" That thing changed my life. The Kinks can always pull out certain feelings with the music.
I'm still trying to convince my band mates to let us open the show with Shangri-la. I love the idea of finishing a rocking song like that and having the audience just stare at us. They also wouldn't let me do the Who's "a quick one while he's away" either so I"m not holding onto any hopes.
Man, Ray Davies. I must admit I never ever get star struck when meeting people, I never ask for autographs etc. I just do the sessions and get on with it, but I must admit the 2 people who could excite me meeting them would be McCartney and Ray Davies. Anybody who can write his own unauthorized biography is one cool cat. And his voice...awesome.
I'm an art lover....come to daddy

Cool story, Jules.

Ray Davies has been about my fave songwriter since I first saw the Kinks perform around '68.

Used to cover "Apeman" in both a Ska and a Calypso band I played bass in. I would love to meet him.

Ha! I felt a little nervous purely because I wasn't really supposed to be there, (I was tagging along on someone else's meeting) and was suddenly face to face with the boss!

I've been in a club at a table next to Keith Richards's table and I totally fell apart.. So I totally know what you mean..

I have the upmost respect for Ray Davies and The Kinks.

I went to Glastonbury in 93 or 94 or something like that and they played there. Unfortunately The Orb were on the other stage with a monster light show and it was the 50th anniversary of LSD so The Orb was packed.

Anyway I wasn't really into it so I went to watch The kinks, there was hardly anyone there. It was like they were first band of the day, someone fairly unknown instead of legends, last band on Saturday night!

They would have been well within their rights to be pissed off, go through the motions and leave as soon as they could. Just the opposite happened, they ended up playing an hour over their set, having a laugh and were even taking requests from the audience, their stuff, covers, whatever!

It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, total pro's.

I met Ray Davies a few months ago at my favorite Mexican resturant in Nashville.

My wife and I grabed a number on a busy Friday night and were waiting for a table. I wasn't paying that much attention, but a couple others came in right after us and did the same thing taking a seat right across from me. Still it didn't regiser with me for a few minutes, but then I knew it ... and asked "your Ray Davies" ... he got kinda shy and hung his head and looked up and smiled and said "yea." There was an open seat right next to mine and he came over and joined me and we sat there talking for about 30 minutes. My wife and I had just seen a biography on the Kinks on TV and we were talking about it. I asked him if he was in town doing a show, and he said "no, I'm here doing some recording." This was in Steve Earls old Studio which is just down the street from my house. By this time he knew I was an Engineer and that I had a Studio too ... he got all excited and I swear he's indicated that he'd like to come over and check it out ... maybe I should have done it???, but I kept telling him, "man this one's just in my house." What a nice guy though, he said he misses tape. I heard a few of the new tracks on XM Radio already, pretty darn good and so will be the memory of meeting Ray Davies.
