Like I said, I think I read it. Just going by memory -- nothing definitive. Could be wrong.

Where'd you come up with the $16K number?

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood

Apparently he and Double Trouble played the songs right through, went out and had a smoke (and probably a shot and a couple rails), then came back in and played it through again. Tracked the whole album in four hours or something.

Another off the cuff performance was Neil Young doing the soundtrack for Dead Man. Watched the movie through, went out had a smoke, then played guitar as he watched the movie a second time. That was the soundtrack.

It's not an album but I still marvel that John Lennon's "Instant Karma" was written and recorded in one day.

Desire

I have in my hand as I type ( one handed, one fingered like a Cop ):

Tom Scott Desire

Recorded Live to two tracks by Allen Sides at Oceanway July 1, 1982

I believe he also recorded another album In Japan direct to disk, meaning cutting lathe, one side at a time all the way through in two takes.

I have this on vinyl but can't seem to find it right now. Can't remember the Name.

Didn't Joe Jackson record an live album the same way? In an old Masonic Hall I think, I think this was covered in an old Mix Mag, I remember reading the article back 15 - 20 years ago.

Joe Jackson's album Big World was recorded and live mixed to stereo digital in 1986. Remarkable album done in one session....
