| monitoring ok... I know there have been tons of posts about this.. but does anyone monitor/mix with headphones? If so, what ones? I've heard great things about beyer dynamic headphones but I don't know how well they work for mixing. I know that a lot of people are going to say "buy monitors!" I know that monitors would be the BEST way to go but I just don't have the budget for a really good set of monitors.

| I've got some very nice monitors built with one of the Dayton designs you'll find on the web, you can buy the components from Parts Express... but I also spend alot of time listening to mixes on a pair of Sony 7506's, and it struck me the other day-- it's got to sound "good" in the headphones for it to be truly, actually "good" in real life. In other words... if it doesn't sound "right" in the headphones... then it's not right yet. I guess maybe those are the same words.. whatever!

| These is them... http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_fi...D3/dayton3.htm Really nice, and dirt cheap, too! You do need to have some kind of simple woodshop, enough where you can cut MDF board and do a little routing... nothing complicated.

| sweet thanks! What do you use to power them. I have an Alesis RA300 that I got from a buddy. do you use anything else?

| I got me an SLA-2 by Art from Front End Audio. It's got some kind of ridiculous bandwidth, 10 Hz - 40 kHz, something? Only downside is the fan that makes a slightly obnoxious rumble... totally drowned out when the thing is on... actually, maybe that's a good thing, it reminds me to turn it off when I'm not listening to anything.
