| Lives for gear | RME - Octamic D + Fireface question
I have a Fireface 800 and I want to add more ins and outs. I was looking at the Octamic D because it can do 16 ins and 8 outs. Anyone do this? I'm not too sure how it works.......any limitations in total mix or anything I should be aware of? I want to be sure before I buy.

This is a GREAT choice to add more inputs. We use 2 Octamics, one with the FF800, and one with the DIGI 003. Set the FF to slave for clocking, and it receives the clock through the ADAT cable from the Octamic, which has the same low-jitter clock. The pre's are very flat, not exciting, but clean (like the 4 on the FF). You will have 10 ins on the FF (9,10 are independent) and 8 more on the Octamic. Highly recommended.

I specifically need to know about the Octamic D, which has 8 more inputs.....How are they set up? are the D-Sub or what?

So basically you get another 8 inputs, but they are digital, so I'd need another set of converters?
