Do they make an XLR adapter to swithc pin positions?

I have an XLR out on an old studiomaster mixer that I believe is pin 3 hot. I need to run it into the XLR line input on the 1176 side of my 6176 channelstrip. Anyone know of an adapter that switches the pin positions so I could hook this up? Searched on google but haven't found anything yet.

As long as you don't go back through an unbalanced connection, you don't need to worry about it.

Wonder if I can order something like this from Redco. I don't own a soldering iron and just wanted to drop a few bucks on an adapter.

So? The out of the 1176 is pin 2 hot and the input back to the mixer, pin 3 is hot.

Let's follow the hotness here :

out of mixer on pin 3, into cold of 1176. Out of cold on 1176 and back into mixer on pin 3.

As long as you don't go unbalanced somewhere, hot and cold are just a reference. Do you really care if the polarity inside the 1176 is backwards from the rest of the system? As long as it comes back in-phase to the input, who cares?

ok, maybe something else is a wrong then. Basically when I plug an xlr cable from an output channel on my mixer to the xlr line input on the back of the 1176... the sound is extremely thin and harsh with no low end and the compressor doesn't really work at all regardless of how i set the ratio etc. On the other hand if I run a 1/4 TRS out of a direct out jack on a channel of the mixer... into the xlr line input on the back of the 1176 the sound is fine and the compressor functions. When I read online that these studiomasters had weird xlr wiring I thought that was the problem. Maybe it's not though.

You keep leaving out how you get back into the console and how you are mixing that...

Did you try the Phase invert switch on the return?

Here's how I have it hooked up... Studiomaster master bus out -> 1176 -> MCI JH110c tape deck -> RME Fireface400. There's no phase inversion switch in the chain.
