Issues opening old PT files in 7.4

I recently "upgraded" to PTLE 7.4 from 6.9. I have 2 artists I'm finishing records for that I started in 6.9, but am finishing in 7.4. I have had a lot of issues with these sessions crashing or not playing/opening. Once I open the 6.9 session it makes on in 7.4, so I delete the v6 session and this seems to help a bit.

Anyhow, I'm in the final mix stage today with the band in the room and they're just loving this track. "Hey, can you put a cool delay on that one word of this vocal?" "Sure I can"....Err ProTools locks up...again. Ok, I restart which usually takes care of everything...So session opens back up and I hit play to get back to where we were...and ALL of the plugins have reset to their default values and the mix is shit. I went to a session backup file and opened that from just a few minutes back and no good. The mix is being started over. The band was on the clock, so I gave them their money back for the day and am trying to get the mixes back together on my time so they can come back tomorrow and finish this.

These situations make me look like a fool. I make back ups to an external drive frequently, so I have what we had from yesterday backed up, but the 2 hours of mixing this track today is gone. Is this typical with the upgrade I have done? I haven't had any trouble at all with working on sessions created with the new software.

Thanks,

Neil

Wow, that sucks that you lost your work. Sorry to hear that.

It is good to know you returned the money/time to the customer. That makes for good customer relations.

Have you tried opening the sessions (6.9) and then do a "save copy in" with all the audio and plug setting making sure it also says "save to current version" (or something similar)?

I am working with an artist who has 7.4, while I am on 7.3.x. Sometimes opening a session gives us little things, then we do a save copy as and proceed, FWIW.

Try and use Import Session Data.
99% of the time that's is the best method to pulling in old stubborn tracks.

I´m sorry to hear that, anyway, it´s not a good idea to "upgrade" while working on a project.

This is exactly why I DON´T want to upgrade... nothing but troubles. (more trouble that is... this shit is never trouble free, right?!)

I feel your pain man!
