Cool Edit to PT....

I have a group that wants there EP remixed. It was recorded in Cool edit 2.0 (pc). Is there a consolidate/render function in Cool Edit that would make this transition smooth. Apparently there are tons of edits and punch-ins, etc. Never used the program before.

You may want to look at Adobe Audition. This is Cool Edit repackaged and has had a lot of features and enhancments added.

Right. Not looking to buy it, just looking into transferring without the guy having to bounce each track individually.

Let me ask this: Will his Cool Edit 2.0 open in Audition and if so, does AA have a consolidate/render feature?

Why can't you just import the files into a PT session?

.

They're not consolidated. Files are everywhere.

if I remember rightly, solo each track, select all the regions, and then choose mixdown (mono or stereo depending on source). That should create a new consolidated audio file.

Make sure they start all the files from the same place! probably the beginning of the multitrack is best for cool edit, since it doesn't do bars/beats.

They should be able to do select all and some kind of bounce to track/bounce to clips function making whole tracks.

I'm sure there's something. The guy that did it is a an A&R guy that recorded his little brother's band as a favor, so the technical dialog is limited at best.

I just described how to do it. you select the entire region of multitrack, solo that track, then choose mixdown mono/stereo. I creates a new audio file and opens that up.

Not repeating myself a third time!

Find the folder where the audio files are kept. Not sure about CEP, but it's Audio in SONAR and Media in Kristal. If they were half-assed careful about naming the tracks, you can import each one into almost any DAW without mixing down or any of that.

hmm, tough one.

ofcourse it's easy to just solo each track and export as a new file starting from 0, but this sucks because you have to rely on the editing the a&r guy has done.

ideally you would open the cool edit sessions into premiere and export as omf. but premiere doesn't have internal omf-export(oa AAF) according to their website:
"Third parties can utilize the Session Format SDK to create exporter plug-ins for OMF, AAF, or their own custom format."

Dunno if there are "third parties" that created an omf-export-thing yet.

If I were you, I'd go over to a&r guy and do the track-by-track bounce myself. That way you can check bad edits and fix them in cooledit.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies and quick education. Guess what? The A&R guy talked the band into just having me master the tunes, as is. The usual, "Just make 'em louder." On the plus side, I think the band is gonna come recut everything with me this Fall.
