Help with my x73i, please.

My knob for mids (+/-) is crackling when I turn it up and down. How can I get rid of that?

I'm not a tech, but short of calling Vintech (1-877-4-mic-pre US toll free) and talking to Dallas, I wouldn't think there is much you can do without instruction from them or sending it back for repair.

If they are sealed potentiometers (I believe they are), spraying silicon won't do much. Sometimes just working the knob quite a bit will help. It doesn't crackle when it's set to where you want it, does it?

Good luck, please let me know if I can be of further help.

No, it doesn't crackle when still, only when turned. I'll check with Dallas. Thank you..

Same thing happened to mine a few months ago. Dallas sent me a new pot and it's been good ever since.

Can't say for sure, and I don't have it anymore, but the pot cases look like they might have some openings/slots at top and bottom:

I have fixed a bunch of crackly pots and switches over the years with tuner cleaner or Caig, etc. Might be worth a quick spray followed by some exercise of course. Just *do not* ever use WD40 on anything like this.

It may not be a problem with the pot at all. If there's a voltage across it, then the pot essentially acts like a carbon mic when you're turning it, which causes the crackling. i.e. you're hearing the sound of the rotation. It is possible that it could be by (bad) design, but is more likely a faulty component, like a bad coupling cap.
