Left Ear for Tone, Right Ear for Rhythm

The New York Times > Science > The Right Ear Is From Mars

This study found that the left ear, which feeds the right brain (typically known as the "creative" side) is better at 'hearing' music, whereas the right ear, which feeds the more analytical hemisphere of the brain, is better at picking out percussive speech.

Quote:
Dr. Sininger found that a series of rapid clicks - resembling the rhythm of speech - produced a greater response in the right ear. The left ear seemed more attuned to tones representing music.
Does this mean we should start panning our drums a little bit more to the right and the guitars a bit more to the left?!?!

Doctor Spock did some good research into this.

He found that Captain Kirk actually had 3 ears, a left ear, a right ear and the final frontier...

Well it's a good thing it's my right ear that has the more significant hearing loss. Phew!

That was my first thought while reading your post.

That's interesting...I have significant hearing loss in my right ear, but my forte is rhythms and time when playing my instrument. I guess my ears are backward.

Hearing loss in the more percussion tuned ear might not matter as much because as long as you hear something, you know the rhythm. Timing is more a brain thing anyways (think if the millions who hear fine and can't pull off a simple quarter note clap at a concert).

no , balance is something totally different then the type of analyzing skills the ears have

correlates withe the indian classical set up. - percusiionist on right and harmonium/violin on left of main artist. tambura is usually slightly left to the behind. it'd be wierd singing the other way around for me

as for the audience, **** them

Actually, Doctor McCoy (not Mr.Spock) is the only person who can call Captain Kirk (Jim) with his first name
