reamping box or passive volume controller, difference?

I would love to re-amp tracks (vocals, vst syths), but when I put the out of my fireface into a amp there is quite a nasty buzz sound in my tube amp. Also if I take down the volume of the line level with a passive volume controller.

So someone said: you should try a reamping box.

Is there a difference between using a passive volume controller between my fireface and guitar-amp, and a passive volume controller?

fireface ---> passive volume controller --> amp (This does not help the buzzing noise)
fireface ---> re-amp box --> amp

Is is likely that the buzzing noise I get now will be less when using a reamp box, cause of impedance etc? yes or no?

---

If so: I´m here in europe and reamp boxes are expensive. The cheapest one at thomann.de or musicstore.com (biggest internet stores here) is about 375 euro. It almost makes more sense to get the millennia td1 preamp eq with reamp box in it (1300 euro).

Is there a cheaper alternative in europe that I missed? Or perhaps getting one from the us. If so, can you please give me an url? I have read threads about cheaper boxes, but could not find them on the net afterwards.

A good transformer isolates grounds completely, hum and buzz free...
It's also immune to balanced or unbalanced source, something a passive volume pad cannot do.

A volume controlloer wont match the impedance for the amp so you will end overloading your soundcard's outputs (its bad for it)
Also, you dont have proper grounding

U MUST have a reamp box. and a DI BOX is not the same

yes they sell it! :)

Ok, here in europe the box does not show up at some shops sites when searching for "REAMP" or even "RE-AMPER".

It comes up when you search for "radial"!

So, I ordered the passive one, cause I hate to change batteries and I won't use it with 2 amps.

thanks,
paul

What is the difference between a DI and Reamp box?

why?

As far as i can see it - As long as you are keeping the signal coming out from the "tape" into the DI's stated headroom, You're passing the signal in the right way.

Am i missing something here?

Best regards, Noam.

I just got it and works sweet. A clavinet from kontakt -> reamped through a 60ies gibson amp re-recorded with a tm1 sounds really thick.

And it takes the buzz out.

I guess it's a reversed DI box. You put the XLR in and get a Jack out. And it uses a tranformer to take the line lever xlr signal to the impedance of a guitar pickup. I guess.

Anyway, it's magic. Thanks guys.

my milennia td1 has a mic pre..tube or fet Di input

and a reamp that can emulate the impedence of strat or les paul pickups..[please..in a general sense] and some dipt switches inside that can vary pickup charanteristics but i ani't opening it up
