Yeah, I know...but there's more than one way to serve a song.

I was listening to a bunch of different classic tracks from the 60s and 70s last night...drums sounded fantastic...no one in their right mind would ever think they need any sort of artificial enhancement.

If someone chooses to enhance something....it's a choice. It's the idea that it's necessary that I question.

I'm afraid that if a drummer is that bad, reminding him/her before the show will only make them more nervous...I would leave that alone and just do your best...i would also suggest to learn how to mix live drums without compression. This will make you a better engineer.
