Moving to Nashville, looking for internship...

Hey guys, I'll be moving to the Nashville area really soon, possibly by the end of May, and I was wondering if there were any analog facilities looking for an intern or assistant. I have gone to school, and I am handy with a soldering iron. I also have one hell of a knack for production, and would like to learn from some pros to really step up my game as an engineer, too (you can never stop learning). I would prefer a studio that is either all analog or has the equipment to do an all analog recording.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tommy

Most studios will have analog equipment, I dont know really any studios in Nashville that do all tape, most of the analog equipment is relics (maybe not). I would be really careful when you come out this way looking for interns. Some places will be great some wont and more often then not you answer the phone, clean, get food, set up and strike sessions.

Nashville is a great place to work, as an intern it can be tiresome. I would also look for a good part time job (try starbucks) and work in the studio.

Just do a search look at websites ask lots and lots of questions.

God Speed
(it is not that bad )

I interned at Emerald Audio back when it was still around. It's Masterphonics now. Neat facilities. Good luck finding some tape being used in Nashville. I'm sure some of the big stars use it but I never once saw that tape machine on after over a year of interning. Emerald was one of the top 3 Nashville studios at the time as well. Lots of pro tools in the country business! Not a bad thing.

If I were you, I would call MTSU. Look up the job placement number and give them a call. It wouldn't hurt and they could at least point you in the right direction if anything.

You've got to remember, you're trying to get an internship in a town where 2 of the best Music Business/Music Technology schools in the country are located. You're competing with their offspring. Good luck!

Hey guys! Thanks for the info...I love this board! I hope we all appreciate the resource we have here!

I am aware that there are 2 very prominant schools in the Nashville area, but I'm not worried about that. The way I see it, you can't be afraid of competition. You should jump into the biggest pond you can with the most fish, and not be worried about any of them. I want to be one of the best, and that's what I'm going to try and be. If you're good, and people like you, you'll eventually grab a share of the market. It may take me longer than someone who was able to go to MTSU, but I'll pull it off. With a positive attitude, I'll be able to do it.

Jordan, I sent you a PM.

By the way guys, I checked out Jordan's (soundbarnfool) studio last week while I was up there...the guys is getting some REALLY nice sounds. The kind of sounds that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and remind you why you wanted to get on this side of the glass in the first place. Hell of a nice guy, too.

Tommy,

There's a new networking website for Nashville music folks, and those intending to move here for work, you might make some connections:
