I pretty much guessed that you have plenty of good gear, and I totally appreciate that having high end equipment must make the job easier and more rewarding.

But your really saying its not possible to get slick results with anything less than what you'd find in a fully loaded commercial studio?

Now, thing is, I've suspected this all along, I don't need converting to the idea...but isn't this likely to stir up the - Equipment vs Engineering Skills row?

Additionally, perhaps you could also let me know...what level of kit is qualifies as up to the job?

I think most commercial studios stock boring equipment.

The same me too, yada yada yada.

They definitely don't stock up on outboard effects units.

I've always been of the opinion that you don't want the gear or lack their of to limit the process.

I hate that feeling when i am mixing a track and wishing i wish i had this right now or this would sound great through this.

If you lack the gear, you will have to go through too many hoops to do something and that alone can kill the process.

What level of kit?

I've always felt to do any mix project ITB or OTB you need a couple of specialized tools.

You need(all outboard of course):

1) A super duper killer reverb unit for a lead vocal

2) A super effect processor for backgrounds and anything else that's thrown your way.

3) 2 nice vintage delays to compliment any production in the box

4) A good all world stereo compressor and EQ

5) Some swiss army type compressor

6) A colored specialized comp

The rest you can get by with the filler type plugs(comps,EQ's and effects).

Hi Thrill/Anyone

Just to say, I've upped my DIDOish track to the Show & Tell section, perhaps you, or anyone here would like to critique.

I say it in the Show & Tell and I'll say it here, the track itself is not the issue, its not my style of music and sure...its a bit gay, if you could see past that and lend any advice on how to create a dreamier mix, I'd love to hear you comments.
