Nme...you Cannot Be Serious?

NME? You cannot be serious. They have not written a legit musical review since Led Zeppelin 1V. They are still using words like "screamo and emo" from 7 years ago. So out of touch with everything sorry. Kerrang is one step below.

The British trades always cared about what color someone's underwear was, they are one step above Perez.
Not exactly mix magazine is it?

eg. this thread:
Best Tape Op End Rant Ever

don't wanna harass anyone, so this is the last i'll say here. and no i don't also have a platinum album. but then again, if offering a critical opinion requires greater success than those it's about, almost every movie/music/sports reviewer/commentator is going to be out of a job, i suppose. speaking of which, it's rare, but i really think nme nailed this one re: 'decadent-expensive-precision-ironed-slickness' undermining the band, songs, and recording as a whole:

Paramore - Paramore: RIOT! - Album Reviews - NME.COM

some people pander vacuously to trends/fads/gimmicks, some people aim for timelessness, and others still fill in all the various shades between.

for the record, imo, paramore - great show/musicians, lyrics a little too the oc/hills imo. the mix - well done for what it is. final product - for a similar genre record, i'll stick with billy talent or jimmy eat world. i'd go early if they were opening for a band/festival i was seeing though, and i'll be listening for their next disc.

sorry for any offense my opinion may cause. genuinely, none intended.

Does anyone still even read music magazines anymore? I thought they lost complete relevance somewhere around 1999...

funny,..i spend like 50 in magazines a month,..sometimes more...
i like having them in the john with me, so easy ot flip around, and beautiful pictures without the hassle of my internet loading stuff.

of course, i also still have ten million cd's in the backseat of my tha ti flip through all the time,.and still consider myself a hie-hard analog fan.

Did a show with Paramore a few years back when "Pressure" video had just hit Fuse.

They were great live.

This album, be it cookie cutter or not, has become an original cookie.

Pardon me for buying into it, but I like the fact that these teenagers can make music, make it sound good (live), and still keep their heads on straight.

Say it isn't music, but you'll just get left behind in your oh-so-sad grandpa wheelchair. You don't define music, and neither do I. So, it is, it isn't.

Whatever.

I do know, however, that I LOVE the sound of this, even if it is slammed.

The drums really have a fantastic kick/snare mix, and her vocals soar.

They were kids when they got their deal, and they deserved every penny. They're plastered on magazines constantly.

If you say they are fitting a mold, that mold was created by the music you call original. Everything is a part of everything else. :)

Oh, and it wasn't my personal music that opened. It was an older band. Long time ago, with The Rocket Summer and Brandtson.

It was a blast.

Lets agree that some like and some dislike the record, no point arguing about it because most people wont change there view.

O.k lets get back to the individual sounds of the record!

Some of us here would love to here how you mix your drums and vocals!!

agreed... especially drums.

I had a drummer come in and tell me to make it sound exactly like the Paramore record.

I kinda chuckled...

Man do you guys really get people come in and demand that their drums sound like Breaking Benjamin or Paramore or something else a very good drummer has tracked?

How long until you tell the drummer or band that it won't happen unless the musician in front of the mic plays like the drummer they want to sound like?

Thats funny,
Just tell the drummer to learn to play to the grid like Dave Grohl and you can make him sound great!

Heh, yea if it was ONLY playing correct timing we'd all make everyone be able to sound like rockstars... technique and decent drums are overrated ;)

BTW, any idea why the original drummer from BB quit?? I heard he was doing clinics nowadays. He was very good.

Dont know whether any of you are interested in this but i stumbled across what seems to be the vocals from two of the tracks including effects and harmonies.

YouTube - Paramore - Misery Business Studio Acapella

YouTube - Paramore - Crushcrushcrush Studio Acapella

obviously you have to deal with the old youtube crap sound quality, but quite a good insight for us learning.

I usually keep my camcorder running 24 hours a day when I track... and also have a camera handy for quick shots, but during this record we were so busy I didnt have a chance to do it. I think at the end of the record Dave and I looked at eachother and said "do you have any pics of this session?" I think josh has some footage and pics. I'll have to drop him a line.

very cool. i haven't been to big shot yet but i've heard of it.
There's a low-budget tracking room caled "gridlock studios" i track a lot of my low budget bands there,...decent litle place, just some cool pres and comps into PTHD, or KDS (former trans-continental) is a nice place is you need the million dollar room, they have 3 to choose from. Or of course, Phatt planet studios is pretty low priced with a few nice rooms, desks, etc...

Now if only i could book more bands

Question Question for Stereo-Mixer vocal de-essing

Sorry you have had to spend equal time deflecting haters on this thread, I guess it's like winning the lottery and deflecting "3rd cousins" with bad investment ideas...

You've made (long with the artist) an awesome, powerful, genre affecting record and you should be very proud!!!!

Your vocal tone is something that escapes me so far.

Can you give me some plug in ideas or boxes to look at or techniques to try to get the
de-essing or cool aggressive but very round vocal tone you get. It almost sounds like 2 channels for the vocals, one open and carved out in the mids and another on a separate track thinned out and squashed....very cool.

I know everyone has their secrets, so I would never ask for your tool of choice.

But a hint of where to look would be much appreciated.

Keep up the work,
Chris
