What pro earplugs are there? Flat response?

I've started a band again and in the old days I wouldn't wear ear plugs - or, I would, but they made everything sound shit. As a drummer is was stupid not to, and now I'm going to play it safe.

I'm prepared to spend a fair bit on these, since our ears are more important than any gear that ever gets mentioned on these forums.

I've heard of ear plugs that have a reasonably flat response, that you can even get specially fitted.

What are the brands? Is there a special name for ear plugs like this?

Thanks

Look up etymotic ER20s - They're advertised as attenuating all frequencies equally. I don't think it's quite flat. They aren't expensive at all though.

When I had these plugs, I got them from an audiologist. I would look up ear doctors/audiologists and ask. They are referred to as "musician's earplugs".

To this day I've found a pinch of wadded-up tissue still the best- attenuates nicely and still lets the detail through-

I visited an ENT clinic and had custom ear plugs made with -15dB attenuator filters. The pair was about $140 all done. They make a mold of your ear and custom make them. There are 3 different filters available for different attenuation levels, and they sound reasonably flat compared to the cheap foam plugs.

Worth every penny, and built to last.
