Why should I get a Heil PR30 or 35?

I've got the 20 and the 40. Why should I get the PR-30 or PR-35? What's it best for? How does it work in relation to the two I've got?

Thanks - Brad

You should get the PR-30 AND the PR-35 to complete your collection! ;)

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the PR-30 (it's the only Heil Sound I own currently, so I'm not sure how it would stack up to the PR40/20). It's great on guitar cabs and I like it for vocals. However, my experience is somewhat limited so keep in mind that this is coming from an amatuer when it comes to recording. :)

You should get a 30 or 35 for the same reason you should get any other piece of gear. If fills a hole in you toolbox.

The 35 is basically the same as the 30 except it is made for live "handheld" use. I have the 40 and like it alot. I plan on getting the 30 and that'll be it.

The 35 has a bit more of the presence peak at 4-5k than the 30. The 35 also has less handling noise. I prefer the 35 to the 30 on snare and the 30 to the 35 on guitar cabs.

Has anyone put the PR-35 against any other hand held mic though? I took a PR-20 out too Boston, and I ended up having to switch back to the 58 on two vocalists.

the PR35 is a great mic, it also has the 3 way low cut switch which gives it a bit more utility. It makes a great kick mic, amp mic, and cool for vocals. I could see doing a whole drum kit with them, of course I only have 1! I do lots of live sound and have realy been liking the 35.
the PR20 has been upgraded to the PR22, less handling noise. I do love my PR20 but it can get clunky and pick up lots of external vibrations.

Talk to us a little more about the 35 vs. the 30 on snare drum. I dig the 30 on snare. Very curious about that 35!

The reason that Yrlk should get a PR30 is because it sounds completely different the PR40 and PR20 and IMHO is a little more versatile than either of those. I use mine all the time for guitar amps and drums.

thanks,
Brad

If you are thinking about using it as a studio vocal mic... It's not, but it is good on a guitar cab.

I really like the the way the 20 works for my live vocal and definitely want to try out the 35. The 20 has very natural feel but seems to have it's bump up higher. I could see being problematic mixed in a setting with other mics with the typical 5-6 k push. Interesting your finding with the 35. A little closer to the pack' than the other Heils perhaps?
