but i guess if i were to have vocal harmonies it would work. on another note: think about MIDI musical instrument digital interface it seems to me that it would make more sense to be pronounced rhyming with city,.. just given the actual word,...

| Lives for gear | oh wow, just wow. My mind is reeling at how cool this is and how scary this is. I suppose after Acid and sample CDs and Live, everyone became an electronic composer, now people won't even have to learn to play an instrument to make instrumental music. Obviously those who are great at what they do are not great because they can learn every note and every chord combo, but because they have that "thing" that makes great art, and that will still have a premium. But still, wow. |

| This is the first new technology in a decade or so that has made me go "WOW". but its making me want to go crank up an old Neil Young record and remember why I got into music in the first place.

| Holy crap! If I didn't see it I wouldn't have believed it. Guess I will be buying the upgrade when it comes out. I thought that would be impossible. How in hell is it done?

| Since guitar is my second music language, I'll finally be able to play the kinds of chords I hear in my head. And impress my guitar playing friends. Jon |

| Gear addict | impressive, but it kind of goes against everything i've built my whole studio around... where does it end? is music just going to be pumped out of little white Macs someday? "now, we can just plug our cable into the small 1/8" jack behind your ear, and our software will emulate the song you're thinking of!" cool for some people, i guess. -rs

| I actually did a DAT transfer to cd for someone recently. However the one song had an acoustic guitar intro with 1 fatally flawed chord. I tried my best with every trick I could think of and failed. Repitching and repasting etc. Only one note was bad in the chord. If I coulda fixed it for the guy he would have worshiped me. Some times you need to fix something that can't be redone for some reason. Or maybe was overlooked somehow at an early phase in the process. This would be perfect. But I am not about to play guitar for someone ITB! |

it is ana amazing thing, and so scary,.. i think eventually bands will start coming in and playing one power chord in striaght 16'th notes through the length of a song and we will have to arrange the parts. or maybe even,..just take sample impulses "here this is our sond make a song" i'm one of the young guys, who LOVES complete sterile over production, slick, sheen, shiny ass productions,... but even i found myself the other day in session say "dude you guys are sucking the life out of rock and roll right now" i slept at the studio that night,..and put KISS, and motly crue through the monitors just to enjoy some more real rock music. | |

| Gear addict | i have my guilty pleasure shiny productions, but i love a recording that sounds like the band. everything fits. some music just doesn't fit into the overly comped, super scooped, clean sound. sometimes it really needs to sound like they're playing in your livingroom. |

| Yeah, I'm in the same boat, I don't know whether to be amazed, disgusted or downright offended....as an engineer who actually doesn't use Autotune or Melodyne currently, but knows that he will have to man up eventually just to get new clients, I don't know what to think. It's true that it noticeably screwed with the tone in many instances, though.... |

| seeing the produced movie after the live presentation, i still want to do a standing ovation. riffster eluded to it, but will it obliterate the current sampling laws? lawyers are probably already thanking Mr. Neubacker in advance under their breath... |

| I guess there is a little Luddite in us all. I am sure digital editing was met with similar resistance. I have seen this thing in action where the studio guy was cleaning up a few warbled notes in an otherwise stellar recording. The singer just flubbed a few. I watched him mouse the correct notes, save and play the result. You betcha! Pro's will need this just to compete. It is magic. And pro's always need a little magic to make things happen.

| I'm a totally OTB kind of guy simply because I think music is kind of an organic process like cooking. So, I seriously doubt I'm going to get the same musical experience by staring and tweeking layers in an audio application. I don't even like keyboards. However, non-linear editing came about for a reason. This, like Izotope RX, is another amazing utility that would be really foolish to ignore as useless. The scary thing is that odds are people would use this solely as a source for creation without any kind of live creation at all. I think that sounds like fun too, but I doubt I'd ever get around to doing things that way (See first paragraph). I think people take things to extremes and forget the basis of natural ingredients that make a sound what it is, just like seeing a live show versus an mp3 on myspace. The expense of recording sound naturally also helps push that notion further from existence. Overall, I think Melodyne's Direct Note Access is simply amazing. It's an instrument of it's own.

| Lets all take a moment to be thankful that this guy is using his genius brain mater to build music programs, and not building weapons of mass destruction. Jeeeeeeezus, I am floored at this technology. |
